What is Steve Feratu?

Steve Feratu: Vampire Detective is a hard-boiled detective story, slathered in a delicious monster movie sauce, all stuffed inside a crisp flakey tortilla of comedy.

An average homicide detective can deal with situations normal folks couldn't even imagine. Strange circumstances, horrific crime scenes, the dregs of society... the list goes on. But what happens when a great homicide detective can't deal with his current case? What does he or she do when bats start attacking at all hours of the night, when Frankenstein monsters are arrested for murder while attempting to harvest fresh body parts, when wolf-men no longer keep to the shadows and begin their murderous onslaught of everyday citizens? They call in the only person who can deal with these supernatural circumstances. They call in Steve Feratu: Vampire Detective.

"Preposterous!" many say.
"Outrageous!!" cry others.
"A vampire on the side of the law?! You're out of your freaking skull!!!" one dude yells at the heavens.

All of these things are true. But still, there he is, blood sucking and all, with his badge firmly pinned to his creepy, vampire-suited chest.

Steve is a vampire turned good by the horrible atrocities committed by creatures of his ilk. When your homicide investigation gets too freaky, too nasty, too supernatural, Steve Feratu is the man to call.

TONE:
Steve Feratu: Vampire Detective is a hilarious noir-crime book set in a city overrun with monsters of all kinds. If one were to make it a movie, a PG-13 rating would fit it well.

PREMISE:
Steve is a vampire that is also a detective.
But not the other way around.
His partner is Lester Wolfman, a Jewish werewolf.
They solve crimes of a monster-movie nature.
That's pretty simple.

THE STORY:
Steve and Lester solve crimes around the city that seem to involve elements outside the realm of typical police work. You know, like swamp creatures and stuff. Every day, there's a new crime, and with that crime comes a new monster. One week it's Dr. Frankenstein, the next it's an army of space robots, then mummies.

The one thing that keeps Steve driven in this crazy world of never-ending violence is the desire to bring his arch nemesis, the vile Count Dracula, to justice.

With each crime Steve and Lester solve, they reveal another clue leading to the whereabouts of Count Dracula and hinting at his diabolical plot to enslave the world.

But when does it end? When Steve puts Count Dracula behind bars and makes him pay his debt to society.

Characters: Steve Feratu

Steve Feratu is the police force's premiere homicide detective.  His methods are strange, his appearance disturbing, his thirst for human blood off-putting, but when it comes to solving murder cases, you just can't beat this guy.

In recent years, crimes around the city have become stranger and stranger as monsters of all sorts found refuge within its limits.  Steve, due to his unique abilities, became only detective to go to when cases got weird.

Steve divorced himself of the evil vampire lifestyle while at a very young age.  He saw the despicable acts carried out by his vampire brothers and sisters and immediately removed himself from the community.  It was in this departure that he became mortal enemies with Count Dracula.  Now that he's on the police force, Steve has devoted his life to protecting the innocent, serving the people, and bringing Count Dracula to justice.

Characters: Lester Wolfman

Lester Wolfman is Steve Feratu's giant werewolf partner.  Smart, calculating, no-nonsense and Jewish.  Lester left the werewolf community after finding Judaism as keeping kosher became exceedingly difficult.

Lester is very much the heavy -- Steve's ace in the hole.  A gigantic wolf-man capable of smashing crime in its dirty face.

Les loves all the good food the city has to offer, loves his job, loves catching the bad guy and loves driving like a bat-out-of-hell.  He does, however, allow the actual bat-out-of-hell-ing to Steve.

Supporting Characters

IRIS MAHONEY: The grouchy chief of police. This woman has had to struggle her whole life for respect in her chosen field. A tough chick in charge of the police force... no small task.

DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN: The creator of hideous reanimated corpses amalgamated from whatever spare body parts he can find. His peers at the local university persecuted him for his ideas, laughing at him at best, and attacking him at worst. He dearly wishes to be legitimized as a truly brilliant researcher in the field of physiology... but seriously, he's robbing graves and making monsters.

C. B. LAGOON: C. B. Lagoon is a successful businessman, or so it would seem. The truth is that Mr. Lagoon is in fact a horrible creature from a very dark colored lagoon capable of murder, torture, and illegal corporate buyouts.

COUNT DRACULA: Steve Feratu's hated arch-nemesis. Count Dracula embodies everything that made Steve want to be a detective: a disregard for his fellow man, sinister plans for enslaving the human race, and keeping a harem of evil succubi who hunt innocent humans and fulfill his every twisted carnal desire.
Alright, so that last part isn't so bad.
